Henderson, NV (KTNV) -- On the second Tuesday of each month, kids from eight different elementary schools bring two lunches to school.
It's called "Two Lunch Tuesday." All across Clark County, school kids are catching on, bringing two lunches knowing one of them will go to a hungry person in our city.
The PTA president from Twitchell Elementary School said, "Kids have a lot of love for this sort of thing and it's wonderful for them to be able to contribute to their own community."
Two Lunch Tuesday just started at Twitchell a few months ago and each month, more kids participate. On this day, this one school will donate about 400 lunches which are then distributed to the homeless.
"They don't understand why a bunch of kids would help them. It touches them very deeply. A lot of them tear up."
Pastor Cody Huff runs a homeless mission. He said God always provides. But on the second Tuesday of each month he provides extra, which means food for more people, many of them children.
That's a lesson these kids understand well, "Because when you help somebody it makes yourself feel happy and the other people get lots of food."
Two Lunch Tuesday started at Charlotte Hill Elementary School and has spread to eight schools now.
The hope is that more schools will participate in the future.
