Charity poker ride helps officer fighting to get back to work

By Beth Fisher. CREATED Nov 8, 2013

Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department officer declared brain dead is doing well. Officer David Salgado is a father of 3 -- he and his wife are adopting the youngest. And in the middle of taking care of his family and protecting this community, he needed emergency brain surgery.

Now his cop friends are trying to help David's family out by holding a fundraising poker ride on Saturday. Doug King says, "As long as I've known David he's been there for everyone. So my wife and I wanted to do something for him."

David's best friend says the medical bills are piling up. So he's organized the poker ride to help out until David is back in uniform. "He's doing better. He's glad to be home. That's the biggest thing. He's glad to be home and in his own bed and out of the hospital."

The poker ride starts at Red Rock Harley at 8:30 am Saturday.
