Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- It is career week at Whitney Elementary School. It's a chance for kids to dream about what they could become.
The school's counselor invited police officers, firefighters, casino executives and our own Beth Fisher to talk to the kids about their careers.
Robert Lewis with Las Vegas SWAT said, "When the kids see us coming down the street, it's not safe for them to be outside. They can't ask us questions. We want to take the intimidation factor out of it. Let them know we're people with kids and interests just like them."
Many of the students at this school are at-risk. They live day to day. But this week, they're thinking about the future.
School counselor Vicki Bustos said, "These kids aren't exposed to a lot careers. So this is really important for them."
