AAOK helps more families than ever this holiday season

Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- AAOK is helping even more families than expected this holiday season.

AAOK stands for amazing acts of kindness. It started last year when friends Brian and Kelvin enlisted the help of their friends to adopt families for Christmas.

Last year, AAOK adopted eight families. When our story on this group first aired, they hoped to adopt 50.

But since then, a lot has changed. Kelvin McLeain is one of the group's founders, "We were really excited about reaching 50 families. But since we last met, we're on track to break 100 families we are able to help."

100 families is impressive, but there is more. When our first story about AAOK story ran, it featured a little girl who wanted a horse for Christmas. That girl shares a bedroom with her three siblings and lives with her grandmother.

Another one of our viewers, Sydney Knott, called to help. The founder of Horses for Heroes will be taking a miniature horse to visit  that little girl on delivery day. And founder Brian Golbourne said that's what's so special about AAOK, when you adopt a family, you meet the family.

It's more personal than writing a check, "What we do is different. We try to give that personal touch. Everyone is able to meet he family and spend the day with them. I think it's life changing."

AAOK gets the families in need through word of mouth and they work with a lot of smaller organizations for referrals.

If you know someone who needs help, head to their website. They can only help as many families as we adopt, so if you want to adopt a family, click the volunteer button on their website.
