Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Almost 200 family members and friends of 15-year-old Alex Martinez attended a vigil Saturday night to remember the teen who was killed by a hit and run driver Thursday night near Lake Mead and Nellis.
Alex was not only well known, he was well loved and tonight everyone got to say an emotional goodbye.
"He loved making jokes about everybody to everyone and he was always happy. He was always listening to music; always riding his bike up and down the streets," says his 17 year old sister Alysia.
The people in the crowd tried to console the family with signs, candles, donations and they signed a huge memorial created by long-time family friend Matthew Baker.
The vigil took place at Ringe and Meikle Lanes, the exact spot where police say Alex and his 20 year old cousin were hit by a car and thrown from the moped they were riding. The driver didn't stop.
His cousin, who was in attendance, suffered a concussion and had a black eye.
Police are still looking for the driver.
Police say it appears neither of the two males were wearing a helmet.
A car wash will be held Sunday 12/28 to help raise funds for the family at Abuelas Tacos on Sahara and Lamb at 9am.
