Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Tens of thousands of rugby fans from around the world are invading Las Vegas this weekend for the biggest rugby tournament in North America.
The USA Sevens International Rugby Tournament starts Friday at Sam Boyd Stadium. It's where 16 international teams will be competing in 45 matches over three days. They're trying to gain points in this year's HSBC Sevens World Series.
For fans, this is a chance to see the top rugby players in the world. Here in the U.S. this is the only opportunity for U.S. fans to see future rugby sevens Olympians in person as the players prepare for the 2016 summer games in Brazil.
Teams this year come from Argentina, Australia, Canada, England, Fiji, France, Kenya, New Zealand, Portugal, Samoa, Scotland, Spain, South Africa, Uruguay, Wales, and the U.S.
Rugby sevens is a variation of the traditional sport of rugby. It's played with seven players on each team. Two teams compete in 14-minute matches.
The three-day tournament is expected to bring 70,000 fans into Las Vegas to watch. This is the fifth year the tournament will be held in Las Vegas. Tickets are still available at Sam Boyd Stadium for $35 for adults and $20 for youth.
The gate opens on Friday at 3 p.m. with the first match starting at 4 p.m. The games run through Sunday.
