Washington (KTNV) -- A popular hair care brand is under fire.
Hundreds of women have filed a lawsuit, claiming the Suave Keratin Treatment Kit has caused hair loss and scalp burns.
It was marketed as an at-home makeover for your hair.
Suave Professionals Keratin Infusion is supposed to transform frizzy hair into hair that's sleeker, smoother and easier to style.
Now, women all over the country are calling this product a hair nightmare.
Hundreds of women are part of the class action lawsuit, claiming the kit contains harsh chemicals that burned their scalps and even melted or permanently destroyed their hair.
Suave did recall the kit in May of last year, but the lawsuit claims the company still didn't do enough to warn their customers.
The lawsuit is also highlighting what many in the beauty industry call the root of a growing problem.
Style experts said women will go to any lengths to get straight hair, and they're turning to chemicals.
The company that manufactures the Suave 30-day Keratin Kit would not comment on the lawsuit directly, but they did send ABC News a statement that reads, "The company takes these claims very seriously."
The kit does come with several warnings for the types of hair that might not react well to the product, but at least one of the women that spoke to ABC News said she didn't fall under any of those categories and still had terrible results.
