Gov. Sandoval promises flood relief to Mount Charleston residents

Mount Charleston, NV (KTNV) -- Residents in Mount Charleston's flood damaged Rainbow Canyon subdivision cheered Gov. Brian Sandoval, as he announced a plan to build a protective burm around their neighborhood.

"We are all going to come together today and we are going to get that burm built," said Sandoval.

Flooding on Mount Charleston has become more intense since last year's Carpenter 1 wildfire, with water badly damaging homes, particularly in Rainbow Canyon.

Residents there said the governor's decision to build a burm in front of their neighborhood, gives them the confidence to rebuild once again.

"Now that the governor has announced that they will sponsor the burm and this is going to go forward, we can now rebuild, knowing summer after summer we aren't going to be wiped out," said Rainbow Canyon resident Chuck Estell.

The governor hopes to have the berm built before the next snowfall.
