Topeka, KS (KTNV) -- A quick donation is costing a Kansas man big money. The state has ordered him to pay child support after he donated his sperm to help a couple conceive.
William Marotta responded to a craigslist ad in 2009 for a lesbian couple seeking a sperm donor.
Marotta did not ask for payment and signed a contract waiving his parental rights.
Years later, the couple split up and when one of them applied for welfare, the state of Kansas went after Marotta for child support.
The state claims the contract he signed is null and void because a doctor was not involved in the sperm donation.
The lesbian couple performed artificial insemination, according to documents.
A judge ruled in the state's favor. Marotta plans to appeal the court's decision.
According to CNN, Marotta has only met the child once and that was by accident.
