Mayors, morning news anchor participating in SNAP Experience
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- The need for food assistance in Las Vegas and the state of Nevada is greater than ever.
360,000 people in Southern Nevada alone rely on the supplemental nutrition assistance program to eat every day.
To raise awareness of the need, Three Square Food Bank is launching their SNAP Experience on Monday.
The challenge is to live on the same dollar amount that Three Square uses to provide meals. That amount is $3.71 per person.
But it's not just about surviving, it is also about trying to eat healthy.
The mayors of Las Vegas, Henderson, North Las Vegas, Boulder City and Mesquite are all participating in the SNAP Experience.
Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman talked about it last week.
And they are not the only ones giving it a shot.
Good Morning Las Vegas anchor Jessica Janner will also be participating and so can you. Just click here if you would like to sign up.
SNAP is the largest federal nutrition progranm. It helps more than 47 million American's each year. Nevadans received nearly half a billion dollars in federal aid in 2013.
