Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- The need to use crosswalks is back in the news after two pedestrians were hit earlier this week while crossing local streets outside of marked crosswalks.
One of the victims is in critical condition after being hit near Maryland Parkway and Flamingo Road.
According to Las Vegas police, there have been 20 crashes at that intersection in the last six months. Three of those involved pedestrians.
Erin Breen from University of Nevada, Las Vegas' Transportation Research Center told Action News that people need to start taking personal responsibility.
So far this year, 29 people have died in pedestrian-related crashes this year in their jurisdiction. That is up two from the same time last year.
