Protesters rally against man accused of kidnapping, arson

Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Protesters rallied outside of the courthouse on Monday, to speak out against a man who didn't even show up for court.

At the Regional Justice Center, animal rights activists were demanding 60-year-old Gary Casupang be sent to prison.

He's accused of first degree kidnapping for what happened in March. Police said there was a dispute at a home on Brier Creek Lane, then a fire was started that ended up killing three dogs and a bird.

While arson investigators are still looking into the fire, the judge was about to sign off on a plea deal for him, which would have reduced his kidnapping charge to a misdemeanor.

The woman he allegedly tried to kidnap, and whose pets died in the fire, said that's not right.

"He's basically getting away with it. They're not here today because of him and nothing's happening to him," said Hannah Borkert.

At the last minute, the judge decided to continue the matter over until Aug. 11.

Casupang's attorney did not want to be interviewed on camera.
