Procession honors CHP officer killed in carjacking crash

CREATED Aug. 21, 2013

Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- A special police motorcade on Wednesday, escorted the body of the California Highway Patrol officer killed in the weekend carjacking crash in Las Vegas.

The procession was the result of the crash that happened on Flamingo and Valley View on Sunday.

Veteran CHP Officer Jesus Manuel Magdaleno, Jr. and his brother-in-law Felix Brandon Cruz III, were trapped in the back of a white pickup, as it sped down Flamingo Road after it was carjacked outside the Flamingo hotel and casino, and then crashed.

On Wednesday, a motorcade accompanied Magdaleno's body back to California.

The procession began in Las Vegas at Palm Mortuary on Main Street. Around two-dozen law enforcement vehicles escorted the families and hearses of Magdaleno and Cruz.

The motorcade made its way across the state line, where the California Highway Patrol took over.

The family told Action News they are grateful for the respect and care given to them by the people of Nevada during this difficult time.
