Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Plans are underway to widen a dangerous stretch of road between Las Vegas and Pahrump known as "The Widow Maker."
NDOT held a public hearing Tuesday night to answer questions.
The project will improve eleven miles of State Route 160 at the cut off to Red Rock, to just past the Mountain Springs.
Improvements include widening the road from two lanes to four, adding a median and putting shoulders and bike paths on both sides.
Assistant project manager Lynette Russell said, "We're doing some straightening of the road as part of this project through the mountainous areas, and taking out some of those curves and make it into a safer corridor."
The project will be done in two phases. The first is set to begin in the 2015-16 fiscal year.
