Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Still riding high on a football victory that brought the coveted Fremont Cannon back to Las Vegas, the top brass at UNLV is resuming discussions on building the team a brand new stadium.
However, the facility would look nothing like Sam Boyd Stadium, where the Rebels currently hit the gridiron. According to the campus Improvement Authority Board, the new stadium is being described as a convention center with a football field.
"The driver will be conventioneering events, things like Republican National Conventions, giant concerts and other special events that support conventioneering in this town," said UNLV President Dr. Neal J. Smatresk.
Students who spoke to Action News said having a stadium and event center within walking distance of classrooms and dorms would energize the campus.
