Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Las Vegas police are investigating a physical altercation that lead to a homicide.
Police received a call on Saturday around 8 a.m. from a male reporting he had attempted suicide.
Officers were dispatched to a residence in the 5800 block of Sleepy Spruce Street where they contacted a male with apparent signs of trauma around his neck.
Officers entered the residence and found the body of a deceased female, later identified as 56-year-old Karen Vernel Hevene, alongside the pool in the backyard.
The man was identified as 51-year-old Neal Huff. He was transported to Spring Valley Hospital and treated for his injuries.
An investigation conducted by Las Vegas homicide detectives revealed both Huff and Hevene were in their home when an argument turned into a physical altercation.
The altercation continued into the backyard area of the home where both Huff and Hevene fell into the pool. Homicide detectives suspect Huff drowned the victim while struggling with her in the pool.
Huff then attempted suicide but was unsuccessful.
As a result of the investigation, Huff was released from the hospital and transported to the Clark County Detention Center where he was booked for murder.
