Phoenix cancer survivor finds lost dog

By Rebecca Lewis. CREATED Jan 4, 2014

Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- The Phoenix man who was living out of his car in the desert near town has been reunited with his best friend.

Steve Cooper came to the valley to ring in the New Year and he hired a sitter to watch his dog, Lexi.

However, he said when the sitter took the dog into the desert at the M Resort, the miniature black lab ran off.

Steve camped out every night vowing not to go back home without Lexi. He also hired about 15 people to search the desert with him.

Great news came for Steve early Sunday morning when he received a call from someone who had found Lexi curled up on their patio in the Anthem community in Henderson.

The person text messaged Steve a picture of the dog, and it was in fact Lexi.

Steve was reunited with Lexi and she is currently at Sunridge Animal Shelter receiving medical attention for a wounded leg.

Lexi's injuries were minor and she will be fine.

Steve is a survivor of an aggressive form of prostate cancer.
