Passengers line up at McCarran in effort to get home
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- The winter weather on the East Coast is certainly causing a headache for travelers in Las Vegas trying to get home.
Hundreds of passengers were lined up early this morning at McCarran International Airport.
Thousands of flights across the country have been delayed or canceled because of the winter snow storm that slammed many major cities to the east.
The JFK airport in New York was closed for several hours on Friday.
Delays at McCarran International Airport ranged from 30 minutes to three hours. Flights going into Newark and Philadelphia were experiencing the longest delays.
But even people headed to California were having problems because of the delays and cancellations in other parts of the country.
According to the Misery Map at flightaware, com, there were almost 2,000 cancellations and more than 1,400 delays Friday morning.
Airport officials say it is up to the Federal Aviation Administration to decide when it is safe to fly.
The only upside for people stuck in Las Vegas is there is no shortage of things to do while passing the time.
