PAC created to support Nevada appeals court
CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) -- A bipartisan political action committee has been formed to generate support for creating an intermediate appeals court in Nevada -- a concept that voters have rejected in the past.
Nevadans for a Court of Appeals, co-chaired by Democratic Sen. Tick Segerblom of Las Vegas and Republican Sen. Greg Brower of Reno, filed paperwork Thursday with the secretary of state's office.
SJR14 is a constitutional amendment approved by lawmakers in 2011 and 2013. The Legislature this year also approved funding for startup costs in 2015 in anticipation of voters approving the measure on next year's ballot.
A similar ballot question was narrowly rejected by voters in 2010.
Nevada is one of 10 states without an intermediate appellate court.
