North Las Vegas police hoping to raise pedestrian awareness
North Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- The North Las Vegas Police Department is cracking down on drivers who don't yield to pedestrians.
They have dedicated a dozen officers to the effort Monday and will be patrolling various crosswalks throughout their city.
NLVPD is using a police officer dressed up in a bright, outlandish costume that is meant to track attention.
But, it doesn't always work and police officers are pulling over those drivers don't stop.
An intersection near North Las Vegas Boulevard and McCarran Avenue is one of the intersections that is being targeted.
A pedestrian was hit at that crosswalk last Friday. The person was in the crosswalk at the time and received minor injuries.
Monday's enforcement event is paid for by a safety grant.
