New Year bringing increase in prices for stamps, public transit

CREATED Jan. 6, 2014

Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- The New Year is bringing some higher prices for many of the things we rely on every day.

The price of a first class stamp will go up from 46-cents to 49-cents later this month.

Your sweet tooth will also feel the impact.

Last month, honey prices were up seven-percent and chocolate could go up because of bad weather in cocoa producing countries.

Getting around could also cost more. Public transit users in many systems will see fare hikes.

Even staying home could impact your bottom line.

Apartment rental prices and home prices are expected to go up almost five-percent.

However, here is one bright spot for your budget: The price of regular gasoline is expected to go even lower this year.
