New Las Vegas fire station breaks ground on east side

Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- A recent house fire in the Las Vegas Valley started on the stove when some oil caught fire.

It's incidents like this that inspired the theme of this year's National Fire Prevention Week.

This year's focus is on preventing kitchen fires.

Locally, Las Vegas broke ground on a new fire station on Monday on East Bonanza Road.

"This neighborhood has long needed this type of station here and first responders immediately available to them," said Mayor Carolyn Goodman.

Fire Station 108 is expected to start making the city safer on the east side when it opens next year.
