Nevada ranks 4th in nation for prescription drug overdose deaths

Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- We all know about the dangers of illegal drugs but what about the ones in your medicine cabinet?
A new report is highlighting a growing problem in the United States, especially here in Nevada.
A report by Trust for America's Health ranks Nevada fourth highest in the nation for prescription drug overdose deaths.
The report looks at prescription drug abuse and scores each state's efforts to curb the problem.
The number of drug overdose deaths in Nevada increased by 80 percent since 1999. National, rates have doubled in 29 states since 1999. In 10 states they tripled and in four states, they quadrupled.
Some good news is that Nevada received 7 out of 10 possible indicators or promising strategies to help curb the problem.
