Nevada inmate caught after short-lived prison break

CREATED Aug 13, 2014

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) -- Authorities say an inmate is back behind bars after spending 10 minutes on the lam from a northern Nevada prison.

The Nevada Department of Corrections says 41-year-old Brian Kakowski was captured a little after 6 p.m. Tuesday less than a mile from the Warm Springs Correctional Center.

Officers say Kakowski was spotted outside the prison fence about 10 minutes earlier and crews were immediately dispatched to catch him.

Officials say an officer manning the tower kept an eye on him the entire time, and Kakowski didn't contact any members of the public during his brief escape.

He was transferred to different prison after the incident.

Kakowski has been imprisoned since June and is serving a sentence of 13 to 60 months for failing to stop for an officer.
