Motorcyclist killed in crash near Craig Road and Rainbow Boulevard
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- A motorcyclist is dead after a collision with a car Thursday afternoon at West Craig Road and North Jadestone Avenue, near North Rainbow Boulevard.
The incident was reported shortly before 2 p.m.
Both the eastbound and westbound lanes of Craig were closed between North Rancho Drive and North Rainbow Boulevard while the crash was investigated and cleared.
According to Las Vegas Metropolitan Police, two motorcycles were traveling eastbound on Craig at a high rate of speed. Authorities said the two motorcyclists may have been racing, but they're still investigating that possibility.
A car that was traveling westbound attempted to turn in front of them onto Jadestone. One motorcycle hit the car. The other motorcycle did not, and fled the scene.
The driver of the car was transported to UMC Trauma for moderate injuries. Metro said she has since been released and is now at home and recovering.
The Clark County Coroner's Office identified the victim as 43-year-old Mark Erik Walwyn of North Las Vegas.
This is the 111th traffic-related fatality so far this year in Metro's jurisdiction. In 2012, there were 109 traffic-related deaths in Metro's jurisdiction.
