Montessori school employee arrested for child porn sent to jail

Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- An employee at Spring Valley Montessori School appeared in federal court Thursday afternoon, accused of possessing and sharing child pornography.

Investigators said 24-year-old John-Benedict Alcantara shared the photos and videos from an Internet address connected to his home.

Neighbors said Alcantara's parents operate Spring Valley Montessori School, where their son worked as a computer specialist.

Alcantara was wearing a tracking bracelet around his ankle, essentially under house arrest when he appeared in court Thursday morning.

His attorney argued that Alcantara is autistic and has a long history of mental health issues dating back to his childhood. Describing the man as suicidal, she asked the judge to keep him under house arrest.

However the judge decided Alcantara was too much of a danger to the community and sent him to jail to await his trial.

"This is an allegation," said Alcantara's mother outside the courthouse. "No child was harmed, they didn't see any evidence at the school. Nothing."

However, investigators said they did find remnants of child pornography on one of the school's computers.

Police said while searching the family's home in Mountain's Edge they found more child porn on his computers, in addition to cartoon posters displaying similar images on his bedroom walls, and a life size human sex doll on his bed.
