Mom says marijuana helps her, daughter born premature

By Rebecca Lewis. CREATED Aug 11, 2014

Doctors at a Portland, Oregon hospital are urging a pot-smoking mom to stay away from breastfeeding.

In fact, they made her sign a waiver acknowledging the dangers.

However, Crystal Cain objects. She said studies show THC, the compound that gets you high, doesn't transfer through your milk ducts.

Cain is a medical marijuana cardholder.

She said she smoked pot throughout her pregnancy at the advice of her midwife to calm her anxiety and nausea.

Her daughter was born eight weeks premature but is doing much better.
