Military brides-to-be get free dresses on Veterans Day

By Jacqui Heinrich. CREATED Nov 11, 2013

Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- This Veterans Day, one local bridal shop is saying 'thanks' to our service members by making their wedding dreams come true for free.

Life in the military is often no-frills, but Operation Wedding Dress from the Brides Across America Program is the exception.

"We give away wedding dresses to women in the military or women marrying men in the military," said Dawn Haney, owner of Couture Bride.

Dresses are donated from designers, shops and former brides.

Ariceli Wills is one of dozens of brides who got their gown dreams granted on Monday. Wills is an active duty member of the U.S. Air Force, having served in Iraq and Kuwait, "It's been an adventure, but a hard one."

With the demands of life in the service, Wills never expected to get the dress of her dreams until a friend told her about the Brides Across America program and took her to the line many waited in for hours outside of Couture Bride.

"It makes it so much easier to be able to not have that worry, to pick what you want. And it's free, you get to enjoy that time for yourself," Wills told Action News. "You're just one of the guys [in the military], always wearing boots every single day. I think that's what makes this so special, you can just go all out," she said.

Couture Bride has participated in the program for four years and hopes to continue giving back to the community each Veterans Day through the Brides Across America Program.
