Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Friday was a special day for a Las Vegas police officer who was in the right place at the right time. He had a chance to meet the baby he helped deliver only a few weeks ago.
Officer Jesus Jimenez was on routine patrol near Nellis and Charleston, when he got the call that a woman was in advanced labor and he was the only available emergency responder nearby.
Jimenez was able to coach the expectant mother through the birthing process, using a towel to cradle baby Melany as she emerged.
But, once she was out, the situation grew even more dire.
"I took the towel off and noticed the umbilical cord was wrapped around her neck," Jimenez said. "Nobody seemed to know what to do; everybody was kind of in a panic."
Moving quickly, Jimenez was able to successfully free the baby.
The little girl’s mother now calls the officer, her "hero."
