Man killed when vehicle hits power pole identified
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- The man killed early Sunday morning in the first traffic-related fatality this year in Las Vegas has been identified.
The Clark County Coroner said 31-year-old Octavio Cuevas-Millan, with an unknown residence, was killed in the crash.
It happened on Sunday around 1:30 a.m. on Eastern Avenue, south of Harris Avenue.
Las Vegas police said a 2002 Chevy Tahoe was traveling southbound on Eastern at a high rate of speed.
The Chevy failed to maintain its travel lane by driving off the side of Eastern and collided head-on with a wooden power pole and palm tree.
The driver was ejected and transported to UMC Trauma with critical injuries.
The passenger, Cuevas-Millan, was pronounced dead at the scene.
This was the first traffic-related fatality in Metro's jurisdiction for 2014.
