Man attempts to elude deputies by using mobile home trap door

CREATED Jan. 13, 2014

Mohave County, AZ (KTNV) -- Mohave County Sheriff's deputies arrested 24-year-old Zachary Russell and 38-year-old Gabriela Quintero, both of Kingman, on Sunday evening.

Russell was arrested for resisting arrest, possession of marijuana for sale, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, two failure to appear on warrants issued, along with failure to pay fines.

Quintero was arrested for hindering prosecution, aggravated assault on an officer and resisting arrest.

Deputies recognized Russell standing in a front yard of a mobile home and they also knew him to have felony warrants on weapon offenses.

As deputies exited their vehicle, they ordered Russell to stop but he continued walking into the residence. A perimeter was then established around the residence.

Deputies attempted to have Russell or anyone else in the home exit. Eventually, Quintero exited the front door but was not following their commands.

As deputies approached the front porch, Quintero stood in their path to the front door and refused to move. Deputies grabbed her and she started to fight with officers. During the altercation, Quintero punched a deputy in the face. She was eventually placed into custody.

Deputies made their way into the home and eventually took Russell into custody. They said he tried hiding under the home by escaping through a trap door, but a K9 unit was able to apprehend Russell.

During the investigation, deputies located two pipes with residue and two tin canisters containing marijuana weighing approximately 7.5 grams.
