The 21st annual South by Southwest Festival (SXSW) is underway in Austin, Texas, and much of the festival buzz this year is not about the featured performers, but rather about a contraption known as the Oreo Trending Vending Machine, powered by Twitter.
The music festival has become a popular place to preview the technology of tomorrow, and this year that includes a way to make printable food.
The Oreo Trending Vending Machine allows SXSW visitors to create custom Oreo cookies, based on trending social conversations.
Users can choose from 12 flavors and colors of creme. Then using 3D technology, the machine assembles the customized Oreo in less than two minutes.
"It's not so much just about the technology, although it's breakthrough. It's really about how do you get to understand what consumers want and deliver those kinds of customized experiences," said B. Bonin Bough with Oreo maker Mondelez International.
Twitter teamed up with Mondelez International to showcase the Oreo Trending Vending Machine in Austin.
