Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- As authorities continue investigating the shooting spree at the Washington, D.C. Navy Yard, Las Vegas locals with ties to the incident are still struggling with the news.
Local Jenny Liese is a University of Nevada, Las Vegas graduate student whose parents live in Maryland. Her father, she says, works as a civilian contractor in the building where shots were fired.
Monday morning, Liese got a text from her mother, which read, "There was a shooting at dad's work in his building. Dad was not shot. He is ok. Talk more later."
For the remainder of the day, Liese says her father was stuck at the scene talking to investigators. In the late afternoon, the two finally connected. Liese says her father heard and saw the shooting unfold. He and his co-workers stayed quiet and pretended their office was empty, as the shooter tried forcing his way in.
