Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- A Las Vegas Valley soldier received a distinguished honor after saving a two-year-old's life.

Army Guard Specialist Steven Thompson received the Army Commendation Medal on Saturday.

Over the summer, the toddler fell into the pool. She was his neighbor.

The child was underwater for about five minutes and Thompson rushed over to revive him until medical personnel arrived.

The event was held at the Las Vegas Readiness Center.
