Local pizzeria raises $70,000 to help fight child hunger
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Grimaldi's Pizzeria has raised more than $70,000 to help fight child hunger.
The restaurant held its "Share Our Strengths No Kid Hungry" campaign in September to help connect every child in America to the food they need, every day.
The restaurant offered guests the option to donate $5 or $10 to No Kid Hungry, and then in return gave guests $5 or $10 back, to use on their next visit, joining thousands of restaurants nationwide in the No Kid Hungry campaign.
"One in five children in America struggle with hunger," said Joey Ciolli, CEO of Grimaldi Pizzeria. "That's a number we find completely unacceptable."
The nonprofit "Share Our Strength" uses the funds to connect needy children to effective nutrition programs like School Breakfast and Summer Meals, create public-private partnerships that work together to identify and break down barriers that can keep kids from accessing or using programs like these, and teach low-income families how to stretch their food budgets and cook healthy, affordable meals.
