Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- A man accused of threatening officers with a knife in the Desert Shores community is now in police custody.
For several hours on Thursday morning, it was chaotic for residents on Secret Harbor Court, as SWAT and the fire department tried to talk a naked man down from the roof of a home and bring him to safety.
At 6:30 a.m., police responded to calls of a man acting strangely and carrying a butcher knife. Witnesses said he was screaming, and threatening people's lives.
SWAT arrived and guns were drawn, and nearby residents were evacuated.
Neighbors said he went into a backyard, scaled a wall and then jumped onto a roof.
"I saw a figure on the roof, looked like in a black cape, dressed in black, throwing stones at police," said neighbor Bill Kantor.
But then, the man took off his clothes and wouldn't come down.
Two hours into the standoff, fire trucks were brought in to use their ladders to access the roof, in order to reach the suspect.
Finally, the man surrendered to police unharmed.
"This whole five-hour process has been to get him down safe and I think that's great," said one neighbor.
Many people were told by police they were in pursuit of the suspect since Wednesday night.
Now that he's in custody, police said they don't know whether he will be charged or will get special medical help.
