Las Vegas mother arrested for allegedly shooting her son

Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Las Vegas police have arrested a local mother after her 11-year-old son was shot.

On Monday at approximately 5 a.m., patrol officers responded to a residence located in the 5200 block of Pebble Beach Boulevard to investigate a report of a juvenile who had been shot.

Arriving patrol officers located a male juvenile within the residence suffering an apparent gunshot wound.

He was transported to the UMC Pediatric Intensive Care Unit in critical condition.

As a result of the investigation, detectives arrested the mother of the victim, 31-year old Shavon Aguilar. She was transported to the Clark County Detention Center and faces the following charges:

- Attempt Murder with Deadly Weapon
- Child Abuse with Deadly Weapon
- Child Abuse with Mental Harm (2 counts)

Two other juveniles and one other adult who were in the residence at the time of the incident were not injured.

The victim remains in critical condition and is not expected to survive. The charges may be amended at a later time.

One of the neighborhood boys, Esteban Cornejo, said, "I want him to know that God is always on his side and that he's taking care of him."

Action News was told the boy was about to graduate from the 5th grade at George Harris Elementary.
