Dolan Springs, AZ (KTNV) -- 35-year-old Jose Isabel Licea-Mendoza of Las Vegas has been arrested just west of Dolan Springs for first degree murder.
The Mohave County Sheriff's Office responded to a possible shooting at about 4 p.m. Oct. 7 on Kellkari Road. Upon arrival, deputies found a freshly dug grave located about 200 feet from a travel trailer.
The owner of the property told investigators that relatives of the owner and Licea-Mendoza were visiting the property on Saturday. The owner's relatives say they were sitting around a campfire when they heard a gunshot.
Licea-Mendoza then walked up to the group and allegedly told his brother-in-law that he had shot the victim, which was the caretaker for the property. At that time, the brother-in-law observed the caretakers lying on the ground about 40 feet away from the fire.
The family members were told to go into the trailer and returned to Nevada on Sunday. On Monday, Licea-Mendoza headed back to Dolan Springs.
After Licea-Mendoza left, the owner notified the sheriff's office that he was on his way to Dolan Springs.
Licea-Mendoza was arrested on the property. He has denied any involvement with the death. He was transported and booked into Mohave County Jail.
A gun was confiscated at the scene.
Licea-Mendoza's sister is married to the owner's brother.
