Las Vegas Sheriff Doug Gillespie not seeking re-election
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Las Vegas Sheriff Doug Gillespie has announced he will not seek re-election for a third term.
In his announcement letter, Gillespie said he does plan to complete his current term and promised to stay committed to working hard in leading the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department over the next year and a half.
"Without the obligation that comes from campaigning and fundraising I can focus on completing some of my major objectives like the More Cops initiative and putting more officers out on the streets. There is nothing more important to me and nothing I am more committed to seeing through," said Gillespie.
Once his term is up in Jan. of 2015, Gillespie will have worked as a police officer for the LVMPD for 34 years.
Gillespie ended the letter with, "I appreciate the support I have received these past 7 years internally and from the community. I have enjoyed leading what I believe is the best police department in the country. I wish all those who choose to pursue the position of sheriff the best of luck."
