UPDATE: According to Las Vegas police, the standoff ended at about 1:30 a.m. Tuesday morning. A person was taken into custody but it is not known if it is the California murder suspect.

Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- A man has barricaded himself inside an apartment on Monday night and police believe he is holding a woman and a child hostage inside that unit.

He is reportedly wanted out of California for murder.

In the late afternoon, Las Vegas police said the man ran from officers into one of the apartments at the Camden Pointe, on Tropicana Avenue between Nellis Boulevard and Mountain Vista Street.

It was later learned that he is a murder suspect.

People in the immediate area have been evacuated. Some were bused away to a local school to stay out of the cold.

Negotiators have made contact with the suspect.

The westbound lanes on Tropicana Avenue from Nellis Boulevard to Mountain Vista Street are shut down until further notice.
