House passes bill to allow insurance companies to offer new policies

CREATED Nov. 15, 2013

Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- The House has passed a bill that will allow insurers to re-offer canceled health plans. But, that still might not make it easy for Nevada even if the Senate passes it.

The state insurance commissioner says 24,000 cancellation letters have already gone out to Nevada residents and rescinding those letters could be tough.

Many locals who received a letter say they have already started shopping for new insurance through the Nevada health exchange but have been stunned by the prices.

Some residents like Karen Freire says it is cheaper for her to pay the fine for not having health insurance.

Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval is weighing in on the debacle.

He has released a statement about those that will be losing their health insurance and says that he has been opposed to Obamacare since inception.
