Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- The Henderson teen accused of killing his mother and younger brother is expected to make his first court appearance Monday morning.
16-year-old Adrian Navarro-Canales is being charged with two counts of murder in the death of his mother Elvira Canales-Gomez and his 9-year-old brother Cesar.
Henderson police said Navarro-Canales killed both by stabbing them on the evening of Sept. 17 or early on the 18th.
After that, he left the apartment that the three of them shared.
Police did not find the body until the 20th after a friend reported that the mother had not shown up for work.
Detectives originally thought Adrian may have been a victim but their investigation soon pointed to the 16-year-old as the prime suspect.
Officers finally found and arrested Navarro-Canales on Sept. 25 at a food court near Las Vegas Boulevard and Tropicana Avenue.
While Navarro-Canales is waiting for his first court appearance at the Henderson Justice Court, his extended family is working to raise money for a memorial fund for his mother and brother.
An account has been established at Wells Fargo bank under the name Elvira Canales.
