Henderson, NV (KTNV) -- A 23-year-old woman was shot and killed on Tuesday by a 22-year-old Henderson man.
The man claimed he was playing around with a handgun and didn't think it was loaded when he pulled the trigger.
Colin Lowrey was booked into the Henderson Detention Center on an open murder charge. He was held without bail.
Lowrey called 911 around 8:30 a.m. saying a handgun accidentally went off and a woman was shot in the head inside the home in the 700 block of Taliput Palm Place, near Gibson and Sunset Roads.
The woman was transported to the hospital but died from her injuries.
Lowrey and the woman were in the house that he shared with three other roommates. At some point, he was playing with a semi-automatic handgun. He put it near her head and pulled the trigger. He said he didn't think it was loaded.
"[The roommates] were very cordial and they were always nice," said one neighbor who was shocked by the news.
The gun involved in the incident was registered to Lowrey.
Detectives arrested Lowrey as the investigation indicated his actions directly led to the woman's death.
The name of the woman has not been released.
