Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- It was an important day for video game lovers in Las Vegas.
Video game seller GameStop hosted an expo at the Sands Expo and Convention Center.
This was the second year GameStop held its expo in Las Vegas, but it is normally limited to those in the industry.
This year was the first year that the expo was open to the public and it gave gamers and others a chance to check out the next-generation game consoles and games that will be on many kid's Christmas lists.
Gamers had a chance to check out Sony's new Playstation 4 (due out Nov. 15) and Microsoft Xbox One (also to be released in November) were on display.
Some of the games that were available to be checked out include Call of Duty: Ghosts, Skylanders SWAP Force, Diablo III, and Batman: Arkham Origins.
More than 80 exhibitors attending the expo including Activision Blizzard, Atlus, Capcom, ASUS, EA, Disney, Microsoft, Mad Catz, Nintendo, Skullcandy and Warner Bros. Games.
Special guests at the expo included McFarlane Toys and Legendary Spawn artist Todd McFarlane; game concept artist Jesse van Dijk; Nolan North, the voice of "Nathan Drake" from the Uncharted series and "Desmond Miles" from Assasin's Creed; and Matt Kenseth, driver of the No. 18 GameStop Toyota.
The expo was only open to the public for one day.
A spokesperson for the event said that more than 5,000 people had walked from the convention center by early Friday afternoon,.
