Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- The 25-year-old man accused of killing rapper Evan Plunkett is reportedly saying it was all an accident.

Now, a friend has come forward to defend him, saying he strongly believes Jim Johnson is not the type of person to kill anyone, let alone a friend like Plunkett.

"He was a very good person, like he would do anything for you, all you had to do was ask him."

Plunkett's friend, Antonio, who asked not to have his face shown during our interview, said he's grieving for two people. Plunkett, the father and former marine, as well as Johnson.

"We all were close. We were all brothers. We never had any altercations, everything was fine," explained Antonio.

Antonio said Johnson is a former roommate and has no police record. He said he won't believe his friend of 15 years committed murder inside a Palms suite on Thursday night.

"I don't think Jim meant to do it. I think it was really accidental."

Las Vegas police said a fight broke out on the patio where the pool is located, involving Plunkett, his brother and another man. Johnson was a guest at the party.

According to the arrest report, a witness told police Johnson told him that his gun had fallen on the ground and gone off. Johnson turned himself into police on Sunday morning.

"Knowing Jim, he's scared right now. He's never been in the jail system. This is all new to him."

Antonio said Johnson wants to be a firefighter, but now his life is on hold. He's in custody for murder with a deadly weapon, but has not yet been formally charged.
