Family members speak out on Henderson double murder

CREATED Sep. 22, 2013

Henderson, NV (KTNV) -- 15-year-old Gustavo Canales said he hopes to find his missing cousin Adrian Navarro alive. Henderson Police said the 16-year-old boy is still missing, and his family has no idea where he is.

Gustavo said, "He might have seen what happened and ran away.  He was scared and didn't know what to do."

On Friday, police discovered the bodies of 40-year-old Elvira Canales-Gomez and her young son Cesar Navarro in their apartment at The Summit on Eastern Avenue in Henderson.

The Clark County Coroner said they both died from stab wounds to the chest. Both of their deaths have been ruled homicides.

A relative had notified the police that Elvira didn't show up for work on Wednesday, and the boys hadn't been to school since Wednesday. Their devastated family gathered at the apartment on Saturday.

Family members said they were waiting to get into the apartment to see if any of Adrian's personal belongings were missing and to look for any possible clues to his disappearance.

Gustavo thinks maybe his cousin could have been abducted. When asked if this could have been random or if his family members were targeted, he said, "Could be a little bit of both. We just don't know."

Gustavo describes his aunt Elvira as a kind woman who he never saw get mad. His cousin Cesar was short, and a cute little guy who was fun to talk to. He said his cousin Adrian, the missing boy, is like his best friend.

Now the family is pleading with Adrian to make contact, and let them know he's okay. He shouldn't be afraid.

Until then, Gustavo said his family won't give up finding the young boy.

"We're just going to be looking for him everywhere. Every possible spot, every street, every park. We're going to find him."
