Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Friends and family held a candlelight vigil for 7-year-old Nevaeh Malone on Thursday evening.
Nevaeh was struck by a pickup truck last Friday, while she was walking in a marked crosswalk on Commerce Street near Lone Mountain Road. The driver remained at the scene.
Nevaeh fought for her life until Wednesday night, when she passed away. Those close to her said she had a bubbly and passionate personality.
Dozens of candles, balloons and flowers were laid out near the scene of the crash for Thursday's vigil.
"All I can remember is her innocence. She was just so sweet. So sweet," said Nevaeh's grandmother Ann Barlow.
Police are still working to determine whether the crossing signals and street lights were properly functioning at the time of the crash.
Las Vegas City Councilman Ricki Barlow is Nevaeh's great uncle. He attended the vigil and is hoping this tragedy serves as a reminder to all drivers to be more observational.
"All you can do is continue to educate and continue to make the community aware of the significance of being cautious on our roadways," Barlow expressed.
