Family dog killed in east Las Vegas apartment fire

Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- A family dog was killed during a fire on Sunday afternoon in east Las Vegas.

The fire was reported at about 4:27 p.m. in the 3700 block of Bonanza Road near Pecos Road.

The fire started in the kitchen and destroyed the kitchen and living room. The two bedrooms were also damaged by heat and smoke.

A woman who was home at the time told fire investigators that she was cooking and then heard a small explosion on the stove. Investigators ruled the fire accidental.

Four people, including one child, was displaced by the fire.

The dog was found in in the rear of one of the bedrooms. It appeared the dog was trying to hide from the fire and was overcome by smoke.

Damage to the apartment is estimated at $50,000.
