Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- A project that's been in the works for years has begun.
The F Street construction started Monday morning.
With Mayor Carolyn Goodman waving a checkered flag, the first truck moving earth drove past.
I-15 will be reduced to two lanes, in each direction, between the Washington Avenue and U.S. 95 exits.
F Street, between west Las Vegas and downtown, was closed back in 2008.
Now, after a state mandate, construction is underway to build an underpass reconnecting the two areas.
The project is scheduled to be complete in the fall of next year.
The mayor said crews are scheduled to work six-days a week to get the project done on time.
