(KTNV) -- It is a well-known fact that college freshman tend to put on weight. It is called the Freshman 15.

But now college students have come up with a way to avoid packing on those pounds but it could land them in the hospital.

It's called drunkorexia.

Students are intentionally binge drinking on empty stomachs.

Doctors say that not eating before you drink means that drinkers end up drunk faster. And, it is then that people often lose control of their bodies.

The alcohol plus an empty stomach usually results in college students throwing up. If they do it often enough, they can lose weight and fast.

A new study says that 40 percent of college students are doing it.

Besides a massive hangover and stomach ache, there are some real health dangers associated with drunkorexia.

Medical experts say that the practice can damage the stomach lining.
